A new nature-themed playground has just opened at a popular Leicestershire beauty spot. The wooden play area is now open at Burbage Common, near Hinckley.

The playground is situated on the Leicester Road side of the Common, next to the café. It has undergone a rebuild, opening in time for young visitors to make the most of it during the school summer holidays.

It includes a range of fun play equipment, suitable for a range of abilities and for children aged from two to 13 years-old. Since the area opened at the weekend, children have been able to enjoy the spider’s web climbing net, a Leda carousel, a large swing set – which includes a nest swing – and rocking play.

Children can also hide in the Burbage toddler playhouse, which features a slide and interactive panels, or explore the sensory toys and music play area. There is also nature-themed surfacing, shaped like leaves and flowers, and a range of accessible equipment, including a stand-up seesaw, and there is a picnic table with wheelchair access.

The new equipment cost £95,000 and was funded by developer contributions and installed by Eibe Play Ltd. Executive member for parks and open spaces at the Borough Council, Councillor Lynda Hodgkins, said: “We’re delighted to open the new Burbage Common play area, just in time for the beginning of the school holidays.

"It’s been great to see so many happy faces enjoying the new equipment, which has been designed to fit in with the beautiful common landscape. From traditional swings and climbing nets to interactive and accessible equipment, there’s something for all children to enjoy here this summer.”
